Emily-Omemee Volunteer Fire Fighters Play Essential Safety Role
Due to extremely dry conditions throughout the city, Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service is implementing a complete burn ban until April 30th. Emily-Omemee volunteer firefighters are called upon for emergencies over 200 times a year, often putting their lives at risk.
One only needs to observe the clouds of dust tossed up by street sweepers in action on the village streets to see how extremely dry conditions are in the area. All burn permits are on hold until further notice and fires are prohibited under City of Kawartha Lakes By-law 2008-215.
Unlike paid firefighters, who stay at a firehouse when they are on paid duty, unpaid volunteer firefighters need to get to the emergency under their own steam. When a fire fighter is on an emergency call, they will activate their green flashing vehicle light in their personal vehicle. Please remember to pull over and let volunteer fire fighters pass when they are on the way to an emergency.
Station 2, the Emily-Omemee Fire station, is located on Mary Street in the center of the village of Omemee.directly behind Omemee Pro-Hardware. on the south east corner of George and Mary streets. In non-emergency situations, you can reach the Emily-Omemee Volunteer Fire department by calling 705 799-6311

Under section 8.03 of the by-law those setting a fire during a burnban can be charged under the Provincial Offences Act and will also be responsible for the costs of fire control.
