Free Downloads Podcasts Feature Omemee

Four Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Podcasts Feature Omemee

Omemee is fortunate to have the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail running along behind both Lady Eaton Elementary School, and Scott Young Public School. On the other hand, perhaps it is the rail trail that is fortunate to be located by the schools, since the students at both schools play an active part in maintaining the trail.
The Green Trails Alliance has a series of FREE downloads hikers can add to their play lists to enjoy at home or while traveling the rail trail.
Omemee is located about midpoint on the 44 km rail trail that stretches east to Peterborough County, and west to Durham Region. Omemee is mentioned on one third of the twelve podcasts available for download.
The twelve interpretive sites along the rail trail are
each unique places along the east section of the trail. Each site can be identified by a large Ws in the middle of the tread with a smaller painted Ws1 or Ws 2 etc opposite the marker along the fence line.
Theses are the podcasts that Feature Omemee:
  • Whistle Stop 4 Eskers (2.9mb)
  • Whistle Stop 5 Trains Planes and People (4.5)
  • Whistle Stop 6 The Pigeon (3.0mb)
  • Whistle Stop 7 Marsh or Swamp (2.2mb)
Be sure to download the FREE podcasts to listen to at home or while on the trail.(Scroll down for links.)

How to use the podcasts on the trail:

Prior to going on the trail download the FREE podcasts to your iPod or MP3 from www.greentrailsalliance.ca. When you pause at a Whistle Stop, (Ws) on the trail,- find the painted sign with its number. Then, using your iPod or MP3, click on the corresponding numbered download, and listen to a description of the cultural,or natural site you are viewing from the trail.
The Kawartha Trans Canada Trail is a unique four season route of historic and cultural heritage sites linking communities, parkland, farmland and the natural environment. The rail trail provides opportunities for nature appreciation and interpretation, hiking, walking, cycling, horseback riding, and snowmobiling. We are proud of the work our students, and community groups do to help preserve the corridor for present and future generations.
