Expected Power Restoration June 12th
While thousands of customers throughout southern Ontario may be without power until early Sunday morning, Omemee residents were unscathed by the power outage.Hydro One workers are once again, on repair duty, restoring power after Wednesday’s storm blew through, leaving 65,000 southern Ontario customers without power. The storm, which tore the roof off historic Fairview United Church at nearby Smith Centre Line, left 8,600 customers without power in Peterborough County, 7,000 in City of Kawartha Lakes area, 10,000 in Tweed area, and 2,700 in Bancroft area.
Hydro One has 1,300 workers from across the province doing repairs. Crews from other local utilities helping Hydro One in the restoration effort, include: Hydro One Brampton, Kingston PUC, Newmarket PUC, Powerstream, and Hydro Ottawa.
Some customers in more remote locations, seasonal cottages, and island properties could remain without power until Sunday.
“We are now entering into the most difficult stage of our restoration effort working in densely treed areas, islands and off-road locations where one repair restores only a couple of properties,” said Myles D'Arcey, Senior Vice President.
Hydro One continues to underscore the importance of staying clear of downed power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous. Touching a vehicle, or a tree that is in contact with a power line can be fatal. To report a downed power line, or hazard, please call Hydro One's 24-hour power outage and emergency line at 1 800-434-1235.
