Learn to Create a Back Yard Attractive to Wildlife!

Terry Sprague, renowned Prince Edward County naturalist, will be the Keynote Speaker, at the District 4 Ontario Horticultural Association's First Annual District Celebration Event. District 4 invites all OHA members near and far to join them for their First Annual District Celebration Event from 11 to 3p,m., Wednesday, June 15th, 2011 at Gzowski Campus, Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario.Not a Horticultural Member? A Family Membership in the Omemee Association is only $15 for the year! What a great way to meet others who are interested in Growing!

Terry's Power Point presentation, 'Keep It Natural And They Will Come',
examines ways to enhance your backyard to attract wildlife. 'Keep It Natural And They Will Come' offers tips on what shrubs and trees to plant, bird feeders and nest boxes, while exploring the basic needs of wildlife. Terry will also briefly discuss how to preserve shorelines. In addition, some of Mr. Sprague's fascinating collection of nesting boxes will be on display, and there will be plenty of handouts.

Awards to Be Presented

'We are pleased to be presenting The Hazel Wilson Award at this event, as well as a Youth Award, and Horticultural Society Special Anniversary Awards.'District Director, Rose Odell, noted, adding, 'The Hazel Wilson Award recognizes an individual for exemplary service, and contributions in keeping Ontario Beautiful.'
The Youth Award is a monetary award presented to a Society to to help further their efforts involving youth of their community in gardening.This year, the Anniversaries of District Associations from Campbellford, Peterborough, and Cramahae Horticultural Societies will be celebrated.

Be sure to register right away to ensure your place at the Buffet Lunch and Awards Presentation. Tickets for this event are $30 which includes a delicious lunch catered by Trent University.
