Omemee Junior Gardeners Growing Strong Since 1946

Omemee Junior Garden Club celebrated 65 years of Horticultural, Mon. Aug. 15, 2011 at the Omemee and District Horticultural Society Annual August Flower Show. The ODHS show,at Omemee Curling Rink, was an opportunity for gardeners young and old to show the fruits of their labour. Omemee Junior Garden Club, has met continuously since its founding in 1946 by Wesley Wilson.Junior Gardeners Bring Home Cash Awards
In 2011, 25 children 10 boys and 15 girls joined the club ranging in age from 4 to 14 years. The age groups of four classes are the Sprouts, Seedlings, Buds and Bloomers. At the show, 17 Junior Exhibitors brought in 100 entries. All participants received cash prizes for their entries.
Top Omemee Junior Gardeners 2011
Trevor Kennedy won the Taylor-Skuce Award for the best garden, and the Jones Award for the most points in Class C (8 and 9 year olds).Maria McQuade won the Hopkins award for the best garden, and the Wilson Award for the most points in Class D (age 10 and up).
Tyler Fitch was the recipient of the Brannigan Award.
Brooke Ellins was the best beginning gardener for 2011.
Kyle Darling, Larissa Marshall, Erik Darling and Maria McQuade all won the Best in Show in their various classes.
Cecelia Darling, Rileigh Darling, Trevor Kennedy and Samantha Kennedy; all won the Judges Choice for their respective classes.
Amber Gunn and Erik Darling each took home a special 65th Anniversary award for their craft honouring this special occasion.
Junior Leaders Linda Jenkins and Heather Grassie visited 9 gardens,and congratulated and thanked the children and their parents for their hard work in the gardens despite the heat and the lack of rain in July.
The fall Junior Garden event will booked for a Saturday in October.
