Starting Your Wine Cellar

Ready to start a cellar, or have your modest cellar grow a bit? Here is a possibility for your consideration:Fuzion 2010 Shiraz/Malbec
Flavour and Suggested Pairings
Fuzion 2010 Shiraz/Malbec is a very inexpensive Argentinean red blend that has a decent medium body andexhibits good fruit. This wine offers enough red cherry to make it a good candidate to pair with wild game, such as venison, boar, etc,, or red meat, a nice roast beef , or a strong cheese, or even a simple pasta and tomato sauce. You will also notice some plum notes, but not a whole lot of complexity at this point. Although the winemaker suggests in the tasting notes, that the wine offers notes of 'other red fruits and spices', my guess is, this was a suggestion from his marketing department.
Ageing Tips
The wine exhibits a decently lingering finish, with enough tannins to promise something good could come of it in a few years when they smooth out. Although a tad harsh at this stage, they are not unpalatable. While completely drinkable now, you will probably want to cellar this wine for another 2-5 years. However, since this is a 2010 vintage, and this review is being written in 2011, odds are this wine hasn’t see any oak, or if it did it was from a distance – so don’t expect any radical improvement, or earth-shattering complexity, when you blow the dust off the bottle in 2015.Summary
At the price, I would suggest you put a couple of bottles or even a half-case in your cellar, as a good drinkable wine -ready at a moment’s notice to serve unexpected guests. Frankly, it would also make a decent gift if you are invited to dinner, and don’t want to show up offering the hosts a bag of Cheetos you picked up at the Gas Station … again.Available at LCBO.
