March Good Food Boxes - Healthy Food Solutions!

Good Food Boxes Available Through Two Sources

Depending where you live in our rural area, there are Good Food Box Programs available from two agencies : YWCA in Peterborough,and Community Care in Lindsay. Today, Good Food Boxes were delivered to Omemee from Lindsay, thanks to the co-ordination efforts of Amanda Ernst, and Sue and Paul Beaumont.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes Runs Food Box Program For All!

Good Food Boxes are available once a month through the Kawartha Lakes Community Care offices. Participants in this program pay $15 before the first Tuesday of the month to the Community Care offices on Angeline Street South, then on the third Tuesday if each month, pick up their Good Food Box from one of several locations. If a person is on a severely restricted income,and qualifies for Ontario Works,then,their Good Food Box is totally subsidized by Ontario Works.

Community Care Kawartha Lakes Food Box contents vary from month to month. Some people may be reluctant to set someone else in charge of their produce shopping,so here is a peek into the March Good Food Box. This month, each Good Food Box contained:

Celery
English Cucumber
Broccoli 2 Stems
Bananas 5
Sweet Grape Tomatoes 1 pt Suncoast Product of Mexico
Oranges -Navel 4
Apples 8 Macs?
Potatoes- white New 8 large 3 medium and 4 small
Onions - Yellow 6 medium
There were also three double-sided information sheets included in the box with nutrition tips,and recipes for this month's vegetable: broccoli.

Good Food Box- Great Produce Quality

Produce contained in the March Good Food Box was great quality: fresh,firm,and juicy. The broccoli had definitely been chosen with care- no split woody stems on the bunches. So will you be signing up for the April Good Food Box?
