Omemee Women Helping Haiti Reuse Discarded Cloth!
Recycling old towels, sheets, or tablecloths? Omemee Women Helping Haiti put these items to good use. Next week Miller Waste recycling trucks across Kawartha Lakes will be picking up Fabric recycling. Surprisingly, those sheets that are worn through the middle, ragged towels, and even plastic tablecloths can find a new lease on life in the clever hands of Women Helping Haiti.
This video explains how women are repurposing discarded items to help women and orphans in Haiti.
Women Helping HaitiCan make great use of the following items:
• Flannelette Sheets
• Terry Towels
• Fabric
• Thread
• Plastic Flocked Tablecloths
• Safety Pins, Razor Blades
• Toys
• Plastic Bags
• Reusable Bags
• Sample Toiletries- Shampoo,Soap, etc.
Why Drop Boxes May Not Be Charitable
Earlier this year, a Toronto Star column highlighted how some 'charitable' clothing bins are big money makers for some companies who resell the items to people overseas. How can you be sure your clothing donation supports ad charity aligned with your values? Simple-donate locally.
Donating items locally to organizations in your community ensures you know where the items are sent.
Local rural charities accepting previously loved items include:
• Fresh Start King Street East Omemee.
• Rainbow Thrift Shop 712 Janetville Road, Janetville.
• Omemee Christian Outreach - children's shoes and clothes for Philippine dump harvesters
• Freedom Valley Horse Rescue Mt. Horeb Road - horse care items
Regifting is a great way to Reuse, and your gift can make a large difference!
