City Seeks Cultural Assets Input!
Editorial: Suzanne Sholer BA. BEd.City of Kawartha Lakes just issued a press release offering residents the opportunity to bring ther knowledge of Kawartha Lakes Cultural Assets to the table at one of three sessions scheduled for early December. Unfortunately, the time and place favour the largest urban centres in City of Kawartha Lakes - Lindsay, Bobcaygeon, and Fenelon Falls.
If 'The Medium is the Message' as stated by Marshall McLuhan. What message do these meeting arrangements convey to City of Kawartha Lakes Constituents? Who is included, and more importantly - who is NOT included in these meetings? With potentially biased participation at these meetings, which cultural assets will be noted and promoted, and which will be left in the dust?
Heree is the press release:
The City of Kawartha Lakes with funding support from the Government of Ontario is undertaking a Cultural Master Plan and Mapping Inventory project. The purpose of the project is to leverage the rich cultural resources of the community to support planning and economic development, and to increase awareness of these resources for both residents and tourists. The project is being undertaken in two phases. The first is a Cultural Mapping process aimed at identifying the rich and diverse cultural assets that exist across the City. A significant amount of research has been completed but we need YOUR input and knowledge to ensure we capture as complete an inventory as possible.
Please participate by attending one of following three Cultural Mapping Forums. By clicking on one of these links, you can register up to 10 individuals and learn more about the project.
