What BIA Questions Would You Like Answered?
One issue which has been hotly debated by members of the Former OBCIA is the important role of community organizations, individuals, local farmers, and vacation property owners in helping to improve the local quality of life. Come out to the meeting and find out if these groups and individuals might have roles in a BIA, and what differentiates a BIA from a Chamber of Commerce.Omemee business community members have been working together with the Economic Development Department from the City of Kawartha Lakes for the past year to develop relationships, collaborate, expand their businesses, and enhance their community.

The OBIAA, collectively, represents over 280 BIAs and 55000 businesses in Ontario. Through membership, business improvement areas increase their effectiveness and their contribution to the economic, cultural and social well-being of communities in Ontario. Ms. Matthews presented in Coboconk in February. Interest continues to build in other communities throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The ultimate goal of Economic Development is to retain and expand existing businesses in the communities thus leading to more jobs. The group is seeking a structure such as a Business Improvement Area (BIA) to pursue their goals.
