Omemee Explores BIA Options - KawarthaLakes Press Release

Business Committees of Council Explore BIA Options

For the past year, Economic Development has been working with the Omemee Businessesand Coboconk – Norland and Area Businesses to discern an organizational structure that will support their goals. The two business groups have developed relationships, work plans and a vision for their communities. The next step is to adopt a structure such as a Chamber of Commerce, Merchant Association or Business Improvement Area (BIA) to put their vision into action.
Steering Committees have been appointed in both communities to explore options.

'I’m excited to see the interest of businesses in the community and look forward to growth and prosperity in our community as we continue to work together.' shared Omemee Businesses Co-Chair Janice Salsbury.
Denise Williams  Business Development and Retention Officer for the City of Kawartha Lakes outlined steps in a BIA Process.
'The process to start a Business Improvement Area is to first discern the need, gather stakeholders, decide on a boundary, create a budget and ask for Council support. We have some of this work completed in these communities.” explained Ms. Williams.
