Omemee Force Main Break - Update What Do You Think?
City of Kawartha Lakes Water and Wastewater Division has been working since Saturday afternoon investigating a suspected sewer force main leak located in Sturgeon Road North, Omemee. During the investigations, the station has been off-line and suction trucks have been deployed to minimize potential environmental impact. This turn of events has brought outrage from Vicki Jones.Vicki writes:
That's ridiculous. The City can't keep the force main that they have running properly, but they still insisted that Walnut Street residents had to have sewer and pushed it through. It's probably a good thing none of us have had a chance to connect yet considering as the main can't handle what is already connected to it. Extremely disappointed and frustrated with how mismanaged and uninformed City Staff have been through this entire project.Water was found to be coming to the surface in an area where the old force main is located. Based on historic leakage issues occurring with the old force main, the City did not want to take any chances and treated this as a suspected leak. Staff will be looking at the spring issue in more detail so that any groundwater welling up in the area of the new force main when in operation will be minimized.
The station has been brought back on line this afternoon and staff will continue to monitor the station.
