Library Offers EvergreenTM Award Program Prizes!
October 1 to October 26, everyone is invited to vote for their favourite Evergreen author, at all City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library locations. In order to be eligible to vote, you must have read at least one of the Evergreen Award nominated titles. When you vote for your favourite, by filling out a ballot at your local branch library, your name will also be entered into a free draw for a selection of library merchandise. Which book are you voting for?
Staff at the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library are excited about being a part of this initiative.

How The Evergreen Award Voting Works
The Library submits all Evergreen Award votes to the Ontario Library Association for tabulation. The winning author will be announced in November 2013 and receive recognition and an award at the Ontario Library Association conference in January of 2014. The EvergreenTM Award program is an initiative of the Ontario Library Association and part of Canada's largest recreational reading program -- the Forest of Reading. The Forest of Reading program encourages a love of reading and celebrates Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators.Staff at the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library are excited about being a part of this initiative.
"I read all ten books during the summer," said South Area Supervisor, Diane Lansdell, "and it is going to be difficult to choose my favourite – I enjoyed them all!!"The EvergreenTM Award connects readers from all across the province with stellar works of Canadian literature. The program gives adult library patrons the opportunity to vote for a recent work of Canadian fiction or non-fiction that they read and enjoyed. Books in this program are selected by Ontario librarians from works written by Canadian authors that have been published after July 2012. The books nominated for this year's award are:
- Eating Dirty by Charlotte Gill;
- Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese;
- Intolerable: A Memoir of Extremes by Kamal Al-Solaylee;
- Tell It to the Trees by Anita Rau Badami;
- The Deception of Livvy Higgs by Donna Morrissey;
- The Little Shadows by Marina Endicott;
- Western Light, The by Susan Swan;
- The Winter Palace: a Novel of Catherine the Great by Eva Stachniak;
