Former Emily Township Councillor - Active Local Citizen Burial Service Saturday!
John Hollingshead, former Emily Township Councillor, was actively involved in making Omemee, Emily, and Downeyville a better place to live, work and play.John, a member of Council for Emily Township, was actively involved in the Omemee Business Improvement Association where he helped organize the Santa Claus Parade for many years.
With a keen interest in preserving local history, John helped to get the history book “Lilies and Shamrock” into print, as a member of the Emily Historical Society. John loved to sing, enjoyed taking an active role in Downeyville doings where he sang in St. Luke's Choir, and helped with things like the St. Patrick’s Concert in Downeyville. After moving to Lindsay, John continued to share his musical gifts singing in St. Mary's Choir.
John entered into rest at the Victoria Manor Nursing Home in Lindsay Monday, April 7, 2014. John, in his 81st year, was the beloved husband of Erika (nee Seuss). Much loved father of Michael Busse and his wife Jennifer of Brampton. Treasured grandfather of Michelle (Marty), Tosha, Chrysta and Christopher. Cherished great grandfather of Jory, Cody, Shaeleigh, Wyatt, Marcus, Austin and Evan and great great grandfather of Avalee.
In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial from St. Mary’s Church, Lindsay on Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 A.M. with a brief visitation just prior to the Funeral Mass. Following the Funeral Mass, a reception will be held at St. Mary’s School Hall. Interment later at St. Luke’s Cemetery, Downeyville. If desired, memorial donations to the St. Mary’s Church – Restoration Fund or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated and can be arranged through the STODDART FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 24 Mill Street Lindsay, K9V 2L1 (705-324-3205).
