Omemee is a community within the City of Kawartha LakesOntarioCanada, formerly known as Victoria County. Omemee is one of the major communities in the Kawartha Lakes, as the proclaimed "city" is vastly rural and has but one major population centre. 
Omemee has a population of 1,319 as of the 2001 Census. It is located between theCity of Peterborough and the Town of Lindsay. Lindsay is the largest population centre in the City of Kawartha Lakes, and serves as the administrative centre as it did with Victoria County.

Omemee:Schools
Omemee has two Public Schools, both named after people who lived in the town, and are now well known. Lady Eaton Elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 4), and Scott Young (Grades 5 to 8). Scott Young Public School was named after Scott Young, an author of many books, and father of musician Neil Young.
Omemee: Notable Citizens
Omemee was the early childhood home of musician Neil Young before he moved to Winnipeg and his father, sports writer, Scott Young.
Omemee was also the childhood home of Flora McRae Eaton, Sir John Craig Eaton's wife, the president and heir of the Eaton department store in Canada.[1]
It was in addition the birthplace of Charles Norris Cochrane.[2]

Omemee History:
The Ontario village was named for the Omemee tribe, which once hunted in the area.[3]

Other Omemee Settlements
The now ghost town of OmemeeNorth Dakota was named after Omemee,Ontario as the first postmaster in Omemee, North Dakota hailed from the Ontario village.
