7:30 am April 21 Kawartha Lakes Flooding Emergency Update!

April 21 2013 7:30am Kawartha Lakes State of Emergency -Fiefighters Boating to Homes!

7:30am – City of Kawartha Lakes state of emergency is still in effect due to flooding in the Burnt River, Black River and Gull River watersheds. Firefighters are now boating to homes.
Firefighters and public works staff will resume sandbagging this morning. Sandbags are available at the Burnt River Depot and the Coboconk Depot. Sand and sandbags will also be available at the end of affected roads.

Fire Department Visiting Homes By Boat

 The fire department will be doing a coordinated recheck of all residents in the flood area by boat access which is expected to take most of the day. There is the possibility people may be displaced if Hydro One needs to cut power for safety reasons.City of Kawartha Lakes posted the following photo of the Burnt River Flooding thanks to Susan Perrin Brooks who wrote:

Evacuation Strongly Recommended

 City officials are strongly recommending that residents evacuate. The Burnt River Community Centre remains open and the Red Cross is on site. Numerous roads have been closed .The following new roads have been closed: The Moorings Rd., Shankland Dr. and Southam Dr. 
 Seasonal residents are advised to stay away. Those who may be in the area are encouraged to return to their primary residence. Anyone needing assistance with evacuation should contact the municipality’s After Hours Emergency line at 1-877-885-7337. If you feel in immediate danger at any time please call 911.

Boil Water Advisory Issued

The Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPR) advises that residents on well water affected by flooding should boil water for one minute at a rolling boil or obtain alternate potable water.
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) flood warning remains in effect until Monday, April 22. The Trent-Severn Waterway has advised that the Burnt River has reached its flood threshold.
