Pigeon Lake Shoreline Evacuation Preparations Begin!
While Burnt River has peaked and water levels are down today, other areas of Kawartha Lakes prepare for evacuation.Kawartha Region Conservation Authority has issued a Flood Warning for the shoreline areas of Balsam, Cameron, Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes. Shoreline residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and their property and be prepared to evacuate should the water levels continue to rise. The flood warning is in effect until Wednesday, April 24. Sandbags are available at the Burnt River, Coboconk and Bobcaygeon Depots. Sandbagging will begin on Wednesday at the Emily Depot on Centreline Road.
Shadow Lake Evacuating
The Ministry of Natural Resources, flood warning for Burnt River has been cancelled, but remains in effect for the Black River and Gull River which are both expected to continue to rise overnight. The Coboconk Legion at 2916 Rd. 48 just west of Hwy. 35 will be open as a reception centre from 8am – 8pm on Wednesday, April 24 and the Red Cross is on site. Firefighters began going door-to-door in the Shadow Lake Area today to check on residents and encourage them to move to higher ground.Anyone needing assistance with evacuation should contact the city’s call centre at 705-324-9411 during daytime hours of operation from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. After 4:30 p.m. please call our after hours municipal emergency service provider at 1-877-885-7337. If you feel in immediate danger at any time please call 911. Residents will be advised when it is safe to return home.
