Plaque Unveiling Sunday!

by  Diane P.Webber OADHS

Michael Bruce Freeman Omemee’s  new Memorial Garden, designed and developed by the Omemee and District Horticultural Society (ODHS), will be dedicated on Sunday September 25, 2011 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 497. This garden honours two young soldiers, Cpl. Mark McLaren MMV, and Pte. Michael Freeman who were both killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008. Both young men attended Lady Eaton Elementary School and Cpl. McLaren graduated from Scott Young Public School in Omemee.

The historic black wrought iron maple leaf panels provide a strong symbolic back drop to the Ironwood Tree, the striking Limestone monument rising above the plantings of hostas and red geraniums.

The dedication of the Memorial Garden unveiling of the plaque and the Service of Remembrance will take place at 2:00 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 497, Omemee, ON.
