Dr. Jules Sobrian New Novel Addresses Wife Abuse and Police Immunity Issues!

Book Launch and Signing December 11th!

Dr, Jules Sobrian, author of the popular White Lily, launches his newest suspense novel - Coming Around on December 11th at 2pm. Coronation Hall, Omemee.
Coming Around, although a work of fiction, was inspired by news stories, and Dr. Sobrian's many years of practising medicine. Two stories in particular, provided the muse for this suspenseful work.

'A few years ago, I heard on the news of a Toronto policeman murdering his wife, and as a result of his colleagues' tardiness in bringing the matter before the courts, the case was thrown out by the judge.'shared Dr. Sobrian, adding   'Then there was the incident of the RCMP murdering the Polish immigrant, Dziekanski at the Vancouver airport with no serious consequences to the officers involved.'

These, and several similar incidents inspired Dr. Sobrian to write Coming Around. The book starts with a unique opening: an example of wife abuse, and explanation of why women continue to take abuse at the hands of their spouses.

The book is set in a small village, not unlike Omemee, and although one or two locals may identify with some of the characters, it is pure fiction.

Coming Around Suspense-Filled Action Thriller

Dr. Sobrian draws on his background of hospital and country practice, with the intrigues of village relationships to bring his characters to life.

In Coming Around, Pamela finds the courage to take action only when the life of her baby is threatened by the bully she married.  Thanks to a little pluck, and just as much luck, she manages to escape, with the thugs in uniform in hot pursuit.  The expectant mother makes her way to a village not very far from the city where the laid-back locals absorb her into their community, but bad luck follows.  This time, it takes more pluck than luck to escape.  Her pregnancy brings her in contact with the village doctor, who has had a bit of bad luck himself.  The story twists and turns, leading inexorably to the time when her police husband finds her.  Within the story is a self-defence course for women, and the message that the only way to deal with bullies is to stop being a victim.

The book cover, shows a beautiful woman crouched in terror, under the threatening shadow of her violent husband, setting the mood for the book which promises to keep the reader's interest to the very last line.

Coming Around will be available for purchase at the launch at Coronation Hall on Sunday, December 11th, at 2:00 p.m., or may be ordered by email from Dr. Sobrian – jsobrian AT bell DOT net - or by phone at 705 799 5230. It  may be purchased at Butternut Folk Art at 18 King Street E., Omemee following the book launch.  Price is $16
