DNA Data Bank Deposit Helps OPP Solve Kozy Kove Cold Case!

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently arrested a male party in relation to a residential break and enter that occurred in 2003.

In October, 2003 the OPP attended a residence on Kozy Kove Road in the former Somerville Township in response to a break and enter that had occurred while the home owners were at work.

A Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCO) attended the location and seized forensic evidence that was stored in the National DNA data bank as the original comparison produced a negative result. In the fall of 2011 the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the OPP was contacted and advised that there had now been a positive result.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of a male party, who was 16 years of age at the time of the offence. The male was charged with break and enter with intent to commit theft, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The accused will appear in court in Lindsay on September 11, 2012.Connect With Us on Twitter Follow us through Networked Blogs
