New Community Care Partnership Bringing Books to Homebound!

Homebound Library Services

Cavan-Monaghan Libraries and Community Care Millbrook are partnering to develop a program that will provide book delivery to residents in the township of Cavan Monaghan. To be eligible for this program participants must be unable to access the library independently. If you or someone you know could benefit from this free program please contact the library for more information.

Community Care Walk 2012 -Will You Care?

Community Care Kawartha Lakes Volunteers care for Omemee area residents in a myriad of ways from Meals on Wheels,to transportation, friendly visitors, and more. Saturday,August 25, 2012, you can show you care too, by walking in the Community Care Walk 2012.
The walk along Rotary Trail,begins with 9am registration at the waterfront on King Street East Lindsay, by the Trent Severn Locks, and the loop is a mere 3km. There will be entertainment and light refreshments following the event.

Empower Rural Women Urges United Nations!

EMPOWER RURAL WOMEN – END HUNGER AND POVERTY!

United Nations theme for 2012 International Women's Day underscores the importance of empowering rural women. While the United Nations emphasis is more about getting economic resources into the hands of women, who can thereby decrease poverty and hunger, we would like to take the opportunity to give a tip of the hat to local women who work towards decreasing hunger on a local level.

Iris McQuade- Omemee Food Bank

Iris McQuade, is just one of the many women who tirelessly volunteer at our rural Food Banks. Iris has been a dynamo for several years volunteering countless hours at the Omemee Food Bank. Iris has a quite down to earth manner, and carefully tries to ensure that food at the Omemee Food Bank is nutritious, wholesome and palatable.
'If I wouldn't serve it to my family, I certainly wouldn't expect someone else to serve it.' shared Iris.

Amanda Whitehead-Food Box Advocate

Amanda Whitehead, a local mum, has a project she has been working on for several months to help families in the Omemee area access the $15 Monthly food boxes distributed by Community Care. Each month Community Care distributes food boxes on the third Tuesday of the month to residents of City of Kawartha Lakes from their offices on Angeline Street in Lindsay. Families receiving Ontario Works may get a free box, and others can get a box of fruits and vegetables for $15. While several agencies deliver the food boxes within the town of Lindsay, there has been no way for low income families in Omemee to access these food boxes. Amanda has been making enquiries with local residents, and churches to find a solution to this stumbling block. This month, for the first time, several food boxes will be picked up on behalf of Omemee residents, and delivered to their homes. Congratulations Amanda on your perseverance in helping make Omemee a better place for all to live!

Omemee Foodbank is open the third Monday of each month at 2pm at Christ Angkican Church King Street East, Omemee.
