How Do You Re-Use Plastic? Omemee Women Helping Haiti Make Mats!

What’s Your Re-Use Tip?

Tomorrow is Blue Box Day in Omemee, which means containers, plastic, cans, and Styrofoam trays go in the recycling, but do you have any great re-using tips? Reusing items, rather than re-cycling them, can help reduce your carbon footprint even more.

How do you re-use plastic bags?

Women Helping Haiti Omemee Chapter, re-uses clean three litre milk bags to make sleeping mats for the Homeless in Haiti. Crocheted sleeping mats are washable, repel bugs and provide an alternative to sleeping on the ground Mats are delivered cost-free, because they are also used as packing material around fragile items en route. An adults mat is 36 x 65 inches, and a child’s mat is 30 x 45 inches.It can take up to 300 milk bags to make one sleeping mat for an adult.
Women Helping Haiti meets for coffee and fellowship every other Tuesday at at the Reaboro-Omemee Baptist Church , 21 Sturgeon St. North Omemee. In addition to preparing milk bags for crocheting into sleeping mats, Women Helping Haiti puts together hospital care kits, and birthing kits for the women of Haiti. Their next meting is on Tuesday, May 17th at 9:30 a.m.

Omemee Women Helping Haiti!

Women Helping Haiti Meets Every Other Tuesday

All Omemee area women are invited to come help put help put together hospital care kits and birthing kits for the women of Haiti. Another very important ongoing project is the crocheting of sleeping mats from milk bags.

The Women Helping Haiti, Omemee chapter gets together for coffee and fellowship every two weeks at Omemee Baptist Church, 21 Sturgeon St. North
The next get together is Tuesday, April 5th at 9:30 a.m. If you cannot attend donations of items and plastic milk bags are always welcome. Donations for this important program can be dropped off at the Second Chances Boutique, or Reaboro-Omemee Baptist Church,21 Sturgeon St. North, Omemee, Ontario.
