Ross Memorial Young Patient Death Investigated!

Inquest Into The Death Of Sarah Cheecham Announced

Ms. Cheecham, aged 22, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at the Ross Memorial Hospital Lindsay, following transfer from the Central East Correctional Centre. Today, almost three years after Sarah Cheecham's death, Dr. Bert Lauwers, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, announced an inquest will be held into the death of Ms. Sarah Cheecham.

Who Was Sarah Cheechum?


Sarah,originally from Fort McMurray, is remembered by friends as a very kind person,who always lit up the day. Her friends valued Sarah's ability to be an understanding listener. Sarah's cause of death is cited as from a seizure in her sleep. The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Cheecham's death, and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the City of Kawartha Lakes Court House, 440 Kent Street West, Lindsay, and is expected to last four days. Dr. Peter Clark will preside as inquest coroner, and Mr. Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner. They will hear from approximately 17 witnesses over the course of the inquest.
