Making Flood Donations? OPP Advise Caution!
OPP REMIND CITIZENS: BE CAUTIOUS WHEN DONATING
CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON –Water levels on the Gull River system are still causing concern and have resulted in the state of emergency remaining in effect at this time.The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding citizens of the City of Kawartha Lakes to be cautious when considering providing financial assistance to the flood victims. Unfortunately, at times like this, scams can appear as people look to take advantage of caring citizens.
The City of Kawartha Lakes has set up a trust fund to help facilitate private donations for disaster relief. Donations will be accepted at all Municipal Service Centres or can be made at the Lindsay Royal Bank, to the Disaster Relief Trust Account. Charitable Donation receipts will be issued for all donations over $10.
