Omemee Residents Facing Fraud Charges!

6 Provincial Bailiffs Investigated For Fraud !

Two Omemee residents are among the six Provincial Bailiffs employed at the Central East Correctional Centre with the Ontario Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services who have been charged with several fraud related offences following a joint investigation between the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service and the Correctional Services Oversight and Investigation Unit.

The role of a Provincial Bailiff is to transport inmates from one institution to another. In the fall months of 2013 The Correctional Services Oversight and Investigations Unit received a complaint that several Provincial Bailiffs employed at the Central East Correctional Centre were fraudulently billing the Ministry for hours worked. A joint investigation ensued in October of 2013 between the Ministry and police in relation to the alleged fraudulent overtime records.
