Two Council Meetings This Week - Any Items of Interest? #accessiblity Issues [editorial]

City of Kawartha Lakes  Announces Two Council Agendas

City of Kawartha Lakes will hold two council meetings this week, the regular Tuesday afternoon meeting, and a second special Council Meeting on Thursday December 11th. Are there items on the agenda important enough for businesses to close their doors or employees to miss a day's pay in order to attend?Judge for yourself.

Are City of Kawartha Lakes Council Meetings Agendas Accessible?

In the past, we've posted synopsis of City of Kawartha Lakes agendas, and other information copied from City of Kawartha Lakes website to make them more accessible for our readers. Today, we're challenging our readers to take a stand for themselves, and demand equal access.
Unfortunately City of Kawartha Lakes posts the agendas for its council meetings in pdfs on its website. Why unfortunately?
While some pdfs can be accessed by people utilizing devices to read the internet to them when properly formatted, even if the pdfs were properly formatted for accessibility, the City of Kawartha Lakes is missing a large demographic by hiding the agendas of its council meetings in pdfs on its website. Whom are they missing?
With the move to more people using mobile devices to access the internet, City of Kawartha Lakes Council meeting agendas are not accessible to the maximum number of potential readers.
If you can read pdfs on your device, you can view the City of Kawartha Lakes Council Agendas Here.
Otherwise, give them a call and give them an earful.
We've been advocating for accessibility on their site ever since we started posting online. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and it's well past the deadline for accessibility on government websites.
