Royal Canadian Mint Offers Silver Jubilee Coins!

Celebrating The 60th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The Royal Canadian Mint has issued several new coins in celebration of Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee. Local post offices carry coin sets each in recognition of 20 years of Queen Elizabeth's rule which retail for 19.95. If you are looking for an extra special coin to mark this very unique and special occasion, the Mint has more exclusive offerings as well.

Limited Edition Coins Marking Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee

THE QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE - $50 GOLD AND $20 SILVER ULTRA-HIGH RELIEF COINS
The wait is over for the official celebration of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of Canada. The Mint is proud to mark the occasion with exciting new proof, ultra-high relief gold and silver coins.

In a contemporary effigy by Canadian portrait artist Laurie McGaw, the profile of Queen Elizabeth II regally stands out on the Mint's first ultra-high relief gold coin. Crafted of 99.999% pure gold and bearing a $50 face value, this amazing coin was created through an innovative technique which pushes the apex of the design's relief to extreme heights normally found only in medallic art. Striking the purest gold in the world at such a high relief presented a mix of challenges and advantages due to the softness, malleability, and flow rate of gold. The result is an image of extraordinary height and fluidity in a rare coin limited to a world-wide mintage of 500 and retailing for $2,999.99 CDN.

A 99.99% pure silver, $20 face value version of this coin design was quadruple-struck and hand polished to create coins which are individual works of art, given the minute differences in surface contours imparted by the extensive handcrafting of each coin. Only 7,500 of these fine collectibles have been crafted and each retail for $129.95 CDN.

Black Fruits Plus Allspice -Elegant Sunday Dinner Wine!

Wine selection can be tricky, but Jim Truswell graciously shares his wine notes and pairing suggestions with our readers on a regular basis. Today!s article highlights a delightful wine which Would make an elegant pairing for a Sunday dinner,

Katnook Estates 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon
Once in a while I will open a bottle from my cellar that has reached its prime. This is a wine you will want to decant at the 10 year point. After all, wines are made to be enjoyed not collected. Where do I start with a wonderful example of the winemakers art?

The wine was wonderfully complex on the nose as it was being decanted. A promised balance of fruit and some minerality. From the first sip, you will note the full body with excellent mouth-feel. Next fully matured black fruit extremely well balanced with hints of allspice and/or cloves. Some wispy cedar notes follow. A wonderfully long pleasant finish.

Pairing: Prime rib, crown rib roast, rack of lamb

Recommendation: BUY

Will drink wine ... no reason required. Will blog ... for kicks and giggles. Will photograph at the drop of a hat ... especially if women are involved. Will play on the computer ... in his sleep.
