Call Your Neighbours! Bogus Water Treatment Suppliers? WARNING!

Water Treatment Supplier NOT Affiliated with Kawartha Lakes!

Omemee Area Residents BE Warned! City of Kawartha Lakes issued a warning about "Water Suppliers" making calls, sending letters, and going door to door in City of Kawartha Lakes. Share this post and all your neighbours. Print a copy and post where you can!
Here is the News Release from City of Kawartha Lakes:

"Water Treatment Supplier" NOT Affiliated with City!

The City of Kawartha Lakes has been notified by several concerned residents that two uniformed persons claiming to be City Employees are currently going door to door attempting to gain access to homes in the area. Please be advised that these individuals are not affiliated with the City of Kawartha Lakes, nor does the City of Kawartha Lakes provide home water treatment/filtration equipment.
Residents should be cautious about allowing strangers access to their homes and should scrutinize any photo ID carefully. Also, check for City of Kawartha Lakes vehicles parked in the area to confirm the person is representing the City.
There are various approaches that these people use, sometimes they go door to door, but they have also been known to contact the home owner by phone, asking if the home owner would like to participate in a water survey. Others may send information by mail. The company then sends out a technician to “test” the home owner’s water. After completing the water testing, the technician tells the home owner that the water is unsafe for drinking. While in the house, the technician will pressure the home owner to purchase water treatment equipment.
Periodically, the City of Kawartha Lakes conducts lead sampling at private residences. When lead testing is undertaken, notification regarding lead testing is posted on the City’s website. There is no lead testing currently being conducted anywhere within the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The City of Kawartha Lakes provides safe drinking water to areas serviced by municipal water. The water supply meets all requirements as set out by the Safe Drinking Water Act, and Ontario Regulation 169/03 which sets limits for microbiological, chemical and radiological standards. All water quality data for any City of Kawartha Lakes Municipal Drinking Water System is posted on the City of Kawartha Lakes website: www.city.kawarthalakes.on.ca. The Water and Wastewater Division continues to provide the highest quality of clean, dependable drinking water for residents of the City of Kawartha Lakes on municipal water.
