Omemee Historical Society Presents Councillor John Macklem Ward One!

John Maclem has been behind bars. We can only imagine the number of hours of hard labour John has put in behind bars, at  the Olde Jail in Lindsay. John,president of Victoria County Historical Society, is one of the driving forces behind the restoration of the Olde Jail in Lindsay. Mr. Macklem has worked long and hard at helping to secure funding,to preserve the Olde Jail, and establish a place to house the historic treasures of Victoria County. All are welcome to his presentation, Sunday, October 16th.

Councillor John Macklem, president Victoria County Historical Society will be speaking Sunday afternoon October 16th, 2 pm at the Omemee and District Historical Society meeting in the historic Coronation Hall.
‘John Macklem, has such a wide background, that we’ve left it up to him to choose what to speak on.’explained.Marlyne Heasman-Fisher, president, of Omemee and District Historical Society.
While the Historical Society usually meets the second Sunday of each month at Coronation Hall, 1 King Street West, in the center of Omemee; this month, the date was changed, due to Thanksgiving being last week. Omemee and District Historical Society always has a wealth of information on hand about the history of Omemee Area. They even have a few copies of the reprint of C. Hillier WIlliamson’s book on the History of Omemee, as well as the beautiful Walker’s Guide to Omemee - The Pigeon Town.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
The Historical Society actively looks for ways to encourage the participation of others. In April, they hold a writing contest, and next spring the contest will be open to all ages., so sharpen up your pencils,or fire up your word processor,and get ready to write!
'We just decided on Wednesday, that this year's writing competition, and book fair would be open to all ages.'shared Marlyne, adding:'So the rules for this year's writing competition aren't set yet. Each year, John Jones draws up a new set of rules.'
Other upcoming events include special guest speaker Ivy Succee, Founder of the Peterborough Barnardo Group, at  the meeting November the 12th, the December 11th meeting, and elections at the January meeting.
