Batten Down Your Hatches Omemee - Snow Coming!

Omemee Weather Special Statement 8:57 AM EST Thursday 29 January 2015 !

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the areas surrounding Omemee, so it's almost a sure thing we'll be hit by the snow as well.As you can see from the Wunderground Map of the area snow has hit Peterborough and is heading west towards us.

Special weather statement in effect for:

Apsley - Woodview - Northern Peterborough County
Fenelon Falls - Balsam Lake Park - Northern Kawartha Lakes
Lindsay - Southern Kawartha Lakes
Peterborough City - Lakefield - Southern Peterborough County

Snow on the way today and tonight. An Alberta clipper will sail across Southern and Eastern Ontario today and tonight, bringing a general snowfall to all the regions. Latest indications suggest a total of 5 to 12 cm of snow will fall from Grey - Bruce east across Muskoka into the Ottawa Valley.
Further south, most regions will receive near 5 cm of snow in total, except for the Windsor and Chatham areas where snowfall amounts will be just a couple of centimetres. The threat of freezing rain has ended for Windsor, however, across Sarnia brief ice pellets or freezing rain are possible this morning. In the wake of a cold front associated with the clipper, brisk and gusty northwesterly winds will usher in fresh and colder Arctic air beginning this evening. Blowing snow in areas exposed to the stiff northwesterly flow is expected tonight as the cold air moves in.

Poor Driving Conditions! Slow Down!

Driving conditions will deteriorate after the snow arrives. Motorists should expect to deal with poor winter driving conditions as untreated roads will become snow covered and slippery. Low visibility in snow and occasional blowing snow may also contribute to the poor winter driving conditions. The snow from this clipper will likely have considerable impact on the afternoon and early evening commute home from work.
Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation. Forecast snowfall amounts in general are below the warning criterion of 15 cm in 12 hours. However if this disturbance becomes a bit stronger east of Georgian and across to the Ottawa River Valley. The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
