Ember - Horse Seeks Home!

Freedom Valley Horse Rescue Introduces - Ember!

Ember, a lovely nine year-old Standardbred mare, did not do well racing. She has been trained both English and Western saddle, and also to drive. Ember still needs a bit of work, but she is a super nice girl - easy to catch / handle and offers a comfy ride.

Here from the Freedom Valley Horse Blog is the story of how Emma was rescued from the meat grinder.

It's Her Third Birthday- Here's Emma's Story

Happy Birthday Baby!!

Rescuing Emma's Mum

Georgia was 8 months pregnant, when we outbid the meat buyer for her. All they said about her was 'she is a mare, and has been bred by a Morgan stud' Howie's father, Harold, was our #1 supporter of all our greatest rescue supporters. Howie's dad grew up in the age that relied on horses for almost everything, and appreciated what we were trying to do. He passed away just 2 weeks before we saved her. She needed a name,Howie's Father's name was Harold George Emmanuel Welch. We couldn't name her Harold, but Georgia really suited her. We discovered that Georgia is a Rocky Mountain Horse, and she was broke to ride. Georgia has been adopted, and her new 'mom' loves her very much!

Baby Emma Enters the World

When Georgia's baby was born April 25, 2009, in thinking about a name we went with Howie's Father's name once again. We couldn't name her Harold, but Emmanuel could be modified....so Georgia's baby,a baby that would have been meat was named Emma.

Emma Needs a New Home

Emma has been handled since birth, lead, and picks up her feet nicely. I have lain over her back with no reaction. We have worked with Emma from day one, and our big girl is now scheduled for training!

Advice to 'Backyard Breeders'

I encourage "backyard breeders' to work with their offspring- take responsibility, please don't breed horses just because you want cute babies in your field, that are only suitable for meat when you finally decide to sell them.

Horse Rescue : Happy Tale!

Mount Horeb Freedom Valley Horse Rescue Horse Finds New Home!

Christine Markle-Welch of Freedom Valley Horse Rescue shares a happy tale about a horse that almost went to the meat grinder, but now has a happy new home. We hope you will enjoy this article from the Freedom Valley Horse Rescue blog too.

Finding Echo

March 17th, we outbid the meat buyers for a lovely 12 yr old chestnut-Arab cross gelding. He was trained to ride- they said that he was a trail horse. He handled very well, and is quite nice! After getting to know him,we decided to name him Echo.

Echo- Even Better Than Expected

I am thrilled to let you know how wonderful Echo turned out to be. He is older than we thought, and does need his teeth done. Echo rides and handles like a dream. He has a lovely smooth gait, I am so happy we saved him!!!

Echo Finds a Loving Home

My good friend came out to meet him, she was looking for a good older horse for her daughter. They took him home this morning.
Later this afternoon, we went to visit. Lo and behold, what do I see as we are pulling up the driveway? The youngest daughter already riding Echo! My heart swelled, and it did bring tears to my eyes! I felt like the proudest Mom in the world!! Echo is a tolerant fellow, such a good, good boy!! Oh MY GOSH!! To think he could have gone for meat last week! YaY!!!

New Horses Seeking Homes!

Freedom Valley Horse Rescue Welcomes Three New Horses!

Freedom Valley Horse Rescue recently welcomed three new horses into their care. Peanut, pictured below, her 2 1/2 month old BooBoo, and Chester are all looking for loving forever homes.

Meet Peanut and Boo Boo

Peanut is about 6 yrs old, and stands at 13.2 hands high. Peanut and her little 2 1/2 month old BooBoo were rescued from a bad environment, in poor condition.
'I met them 2 months ago when the person bought them at auction.' writes Christine Markle-Welch of Freedom Valley Horse Rescue, adding 'They hardly resemble the same animals, they are quite thin now.'
Shocked at the difference in their condition, Christine didn't haggle with the seller, but gave him what he wanted for them.
'The mare was showing signs of dehydration,'explained Christine adding,'It is amazing the difference in them in just a couple of days with proper nutrition and water.'
Their adoption fee is currently $300, but only to a home committed to proper care for them.
Visit Christine Markle - Welch's Freedom Valley Horse Rescue blog to see details about Chester - a horse even a 2 year old can ride, and find out more about Christine's efforts to to save good horses from the meat grinder.

HELP!!! Need to Save This Horse!!!

Gelding Broke to Ride - Going for Meat!

by Christine Markle-Welch

Gorgeous, friendly and sweet; easy to catch and halter, this young gelding would make a great trail, or Western Games horse. We're pretty sure he is a former school horse. He is in the meat pen,and scheduled to be shipped approximately Wednesday this week.

Horse Responds Well to Neck Reining

While we were at the auction barn,, I rode him. He responded well to neck reining, even backing up sweetly, just with bailer twine attached to his halter!  I have already expressed my interest in this fellow. Of course, our challenge is our budget. Anyone wanna help out?

Rescue Budget Stretched To Limits

We are constantly re-juggling and have to pay bills sometimes! If you know of anyone interested in him, or any of our others, one adoption fee saves the next!
