On This Date: Neil Young Live at Massey Hall 07!

Young Released Five Years Ago Today!

"Live At Massey Hall," an album documenting Neil Young's '71 solo concert in Toronto, was issued today in '07.
According to Young, "This is the album that should have come out between After the Gold Rush and Harvest...David Briggs, my producer, was adamant that this should be the record, but I was very excited about the takes we got on Harvest, and wanted Harvest out. David disagreed. As I listen to this today, I can see why."

Rare Neil Young Video Posted!

RARE YOUNG NEIL VIDEO: Neil Young 1962 PSA!
Neil Young News posted rare footage of Neil Young performing a Public Service announcement in 1962 for the Puget Sound National Academy for Child Development.
The PSA features Neil performing a segment of 'I am a Child', against a rainbow backdrop with a number of children with special needs. Here is a transcript of this rare footage for our readers without sound cards:
Opening shot: baby in bassinet, then slow pan across children with special needs seated with their siblings.
"I am a child,
I last a while,
You can't conceive,
Of the pleasure in my smile.
You hold my hand,
Rough up my hair,
It's lots of fun,
To have you there."
Neil continues playing as he speaks:
"You know every child is a gift from God, and whether you have a well child, or a hurt child; The National Academy for Child Development can help your children realize their full potential. If we can help you, or of you can help us with a donation; please write or call The National Academy for Child Development."
The video concludes with Neil singing:
"I gave to you,
Now you give to me,
I'd like to know,
What you've learned."

Neil Young News - Remembering Larry "L.A." Johnson:

Vital Shakey Pictures Filmmaker Remembered:

Larry "L.A." Johnson: 1947 - 2010
Neil Young News posted an article in recognition of Larry Johnson who played an important role in the development of Shakey Pictures. Here is an excerpt from their memorium.

Today marks the 2 year anniversary since Neil Young's long time film maker and producer Larry "L.A." Johnson passed away. He was 62.

To say that it was a terrible blow to Shakey Pictures and the Neil Young community is a vast understatement. "L.A."'s contributions to the Neil canon are immeasurable and he is still missed tremendously.

Neil Young said in a statement:
"He never lost the eye and ear of an original artist, one unafraid to listen to himself first. Even more, he also kept his playful spirit and sense of humor, the things that sparked his heart for a lifetime spent doing what he loved best: listening to music and making movies."

Johnson was one of the original East Coast guerrilla documentary filmmakers in the 1960's. He worked on the legendary "Woodstock" film of the 1969 festival and was nominated for an Academy Award in the sound category.

It was at Woodstock where L.A. and Neil Young first met. Johnson went on to film CSNY at the Fillmore East in 1970 and produce Neil Young’s first film Journey Through the Past.
