For Spiros, one of his most challenging marathons, has been the Uxbridge Marathon, that winds in and out of forested areas. In cooler weather,Spiros enjoys running the Kawartha Rail Trail along the north edge of the village of Omemee, but finds in hot weather, deerflies can be extremely bothersome along the trail for runners. Watch for Spiros to start his run from Beaver Narrows to Bailey's Bay via Highway 7 through the village of Omemee, Saturday July 14, 2012 beginning at 7 am.

Spiros Runs Fundraising Marathons

Spiros Tompros is part of the Running Maniacs club of Bowmanville that is running to raise funds for Homeless Youth next Saturday, July 21, 2012. Spiros enjoys running for worthy causes and figures he raises about $1,500 per year for charities through his marathonng efforts.

Although retired,Spiros keeps on the run assisting his wife with an Art Gallery they run from their home, and providing a welcoming atmosphere for several young children during the school year.

Spiros, and his wife Pat, enjoy welcoming their grandchildren to spend part of their summers with them at Beaver Narrows Resort, just north of the village of Omemee. They are looking forward to several family friendly events to share with their grandchildren, including the ever-popular 'Christmas in July'.

Here is our YouTube interview Spiros kindly granted us, when he dropped into the Welcome Centre at 41 King Street East.

Rare Terrier Breed Lives Here! [Kids Corner Picture of the Day]

Omemee Home to Two Beddlington Terriers

Beddlington Terrier owner, Reverend Wendy Bulloch, loved dogs, but allergies were a problem. Reverend Wendy went searching for dogs that didn't shed, and wouldn't interfere with her allergies.

'When I found Beddlington Terriers,' Wendy shared'I didn't realize how rare they were.'

Beddlington Terriers do not shed, have wool like poodles, and do not have the dander to which most people are allergic.

'Beddlington Terriers are often described as hypoallergenic,' explained Wendy cautioning,'However iIf ,you are allergic to dog saliva, not just the dander, you could get an allergic reaction.'

Reverend Wendy Bulloch, and her husband Reverend Alan Boyd, have two Beddlington Terriers : Alastair and MacDonald.

'Alastair, is MacDonald's father,' Wendy shared explaining,'When the puppies were born, there were seven in the litter,so we named them after the members of the group of seven.'

'We call MacDonald - Mac or Mackie for short,' Wendy explained adding with a chuckle'- Except when I'm angry - then it's E.J. MacDonald.'

For friendly Beddlington Terriers Alastair and Mackie, getting their picture taken happens each time they are out for a walk, so if you see Alastair and Mackie, be sure to say Hi. If you have your camera along, snap a picture and share these lovely rare dogs with your friends.
