Who Runs Omemee?
Peterborough Road Runner coach,Darryl Sutherland popped into the Omemee Welcome Centre and shared a bit of his plans to run with his Peterborough Road Runners Club,Sunday July 15, 2012.Darryl, had driven to Omemee,and was preparing to cycle back to Peterborough, so his vehicle will be at the ready on Sunday, when his club arrives.

Spiros Tompros, began long distance running very early.'When I was four or five years old, my grandmother used to give me bus fare. I kept the bus fare,and ran from the village to the city,'shared Spiros adding, 'And that was 19 kilometers!'
Spiros Runs Fundraising Marathons
Spiros Tompros is part of the Running Maniacs club of Bowmanville that is running to raise funds for Homeless Youth next Saturday, July 21, 2012. Spiros enjoys running for worthy causes and figures he raises about $1,500 per year for charities through his marathonng efforts.Although retired,Spiros keeps on the run assisting his wife with an Art Gallery they run from their home, and providing a welcoming atmosphere for several young children during the school year.
Spiros, and his wife Pat, enjoy welcoming their grandchildren to spend part of their summers with them at Beaver Narrows Resort,just north of the village of Omemee. They are looking forward to several family friendly events to share with their grandchildren,including the ever-popular 'Christmas in July'.

Bethany Softball Wins Provincial Awards!
2012 Softball Association Fundamental Excellence Award Winners Include Bethany Minor Softball!
Bethany Minor Softball was one of twenty-five organizations to receive a S.A.F.E. Award from Softball Ontario at the recent ceremonies held in Toronto,Ontario.
What is a SAFE Award?
Qualifying for the SAFE award is an intricate process, involving full disclosure of club activities, codes of conduct, and training procedures. Jenny Gray, Bethany Sports Director, found out about the award while seeking training materials for the Bethany Softball league.

Award Funds Coach Development Program
Bethany Softball, receiving their award for Community Coach Development, will greatly impact the skills of all playing the game in their league.
'Having a certified coach is like having a certified teacher,'explained Jenny Gray, adding 'Every child deserves to have a trained coach who can help them in learning the fundamentals of the game.'
Softball Ontario’s new SAFE Award recognizes the efforts of local Softball Associations to improve its volunteer base, and help Softball Associations to train volunteers for the 2012 softball season. The SAFE Awards, along with Softball Ontario’s new Softball Association Fundamental Excellence (SAFE) Star Rating Program, help softball associations across Ontario improve the quality of softball by promoting volunteer development, organizational development, long term player development, and ensuring a strong link with Softball Ontario.
A Softball Association Fundamental Excellence Award is an award of $500 for Softball Associations to use in one of four (4) categories:
• Volunteer Development
• Community Coach Development
• Competitive Coach Development
• Umpire Development
'The award we received from Ontario Softball will be a great help in our coaching development program.' shared Jenny, adding 'We are looking forward to welcoming more coaches and umpires to our spring training program.'

Omemee Curling Club, hosted 14 teams this weekend in the Men's Farm Equipment Cash Spiel today at Omemee Curling Club. Both draws ended in ties, so there were 4 winning teams in all. The first draw saw Glen Highland's Omemee team tie for first with Murray McKinnon's Peterborough team, and the second draw had Dave Nigh's team from Lindsay Curling Club tie with Enzo Tarantino team from Peterborough Curling Club.Best Western Women's Challenge Provincial Championship

Nominate a conservationist you know to be honoured at the Ontario Federation Anglers and Hunters 84th Annual General Meeting.Choose a category, and let a conservationist know their work is noticed and appreciated.There are many categories of awards,and you do not need to be a member to nominate someone,nor to win many of the awards. - Professional who in a professional capacity has made the most significant contribution to conservation and the advancement of responsible hunting and angling in 2011.- R. G. Morgan Professional Conservation Award
- Youth Educator who made the greatest contribution to conservation education as a professional or a volunteer during 2011- Larry Wallace Memorial Award
- Hunting Education - for outstanding involvement in the development and/or delivery of Ontario's Hunter Education Program, and/or promotion of Ontario's Hunting Heritage during 2011.-Ontario Hunting Heritage Award
- OFAH Junior Club most engaged in conservation initiatives in 2011- Ministry of Natural Resources Junior Conservation Award
- OFAH Junior Member who made the most outstanding contribution to conservation in 2011 - OFAH Heritage Junior Award
How to Place A Nomination for the OFAH Conservation Awards
Anyone can submit a nomination! Simply provide the name of the club or individual, the award, a description of their achievements, any media stories, testimonials, photos, or other supporting materials that may be available.
The following nominations however, need to be sent to your OFAH zone secretary for forwarding to OFAH head office. Please contact your zone for the deadline.
- OFAH Member judged to have done the most outstanding work for conservation as a volunteer in 2011- Gord Blake Memorial Award
- OFAH Club that made the most outstanding contribution to conservation in 2011 - Mary Pickford Trophy One of the Federation's oldest and most renowned awards.

Girls Enjoy Wrestling Too!
Millbrook Mum Takes Daughter's Dream to Mat!
Girls enjoy all sports; one local mum has gone to the mat, to help make her daughter's wish a reality. When Marlene Harris' son joined the wresting team at Crestwood High School, his younger sister became interested in wrestling too.Chloe hoped to join the Learn to Wrestle program through the Peterborough Wellness Centre,but unfortunately it was cancelled. Marlene's daughter was very disappointed,but decided to join the Kinsmen Minor Football League to play football and loved it, even though she was the only girl on the junior team.
