Route-Three-Transit-Map-Bethany-RouteDid you get your tokens today? The new addition to the transit system is welcomed by many. How will it affect you? See the schedule and rate details below.
Omemee resident, Don Mitchell, has been waiting for the buses to run again for many years. ‘There used to be bus service that ran to Peterborough and Lindsay,’reminisces Mr. Morrison, who bought his token as soon as they were available from the Omemee Municipal Service Centre.

‘There will be a lot of seniors who will be happy to be able to take the bus into Lindsay.’added Mr. Morrison. Don is looking forward to going into Lindsay to visit local seniors in nursing homes, and welcomes it as a more economical way to get back and forth to specialists’ appointments in Lindsay- tokens being only $2 for adults; $1.50 for Students and Seniors; $1.00 –for ages 5 to14, with under 5 riding free.
Other residents are looking forward to spending time catching up with friends in Little Britain, and Oakwood. Still others are packing backpacks and reusable shopping bags for a shopping spree in Lindsay.
Several local retailers had hoped the new bussing might bring passengers from other communities to Omemee, but initial schedules seem to funnel most passengers into Lindsay.
Initial Bus Schedule
Buses will run each Thursday, starting in Bethany at 8 a.m.,stopping in Omemee twenty minutes later, to Riverwood Estates, then arriving in Lindsay at 8:45,and on to Little Britain, Oakwood, Chandler’s Corners, and back into Lindsay. Once in Lindsay, Transit riders will be able to transfer to the town buses for free.
Returning home at the end of the day, Omemee residents will get to spend a longer day in town than their fellow riders from Oakwood area, with their bus departing from Lindsay Square Mall at 4:40 p.m., or the Lindsay Transit hub five minutes later. Passengers will arrive back at Omemee Fire Hall at 5:10 p.m.
Accessible Buses Connecting Communities
Buses used on the Rural Transit routes are accessible, but unfortunately, will only be able halting at scheduled bus stops, in order to help the system run smoothly. Passengers are asked to refrain from smoking on the buses, and while strollers are welcome, they will need to be in folded position before entry.
Mayor Urges Residents-Full Buses Needed
‘Just in time for summer, this is an excellent way to travel in Kawartha Lakes and support rural transit,’ said Mayor Ric McGee. ‘Council needs to see the buses full to make this one year pilot project a permanent service, so let’s prove that rural transit is needed to connect the people of our communities in Kawartha Lakes.’
Route 3 is just one of the new expanded bus routes which have been added to the City of Kawartha Lakes Transit System. other Routes include: 1A Kinmount, 1B Norland, and 2 Bobcaygeon.
