Police remind residents of the following to protect their property:

What you can do:

· Ensure your doors and windows are secure and locked
· Get into a routine at bed time where you check your windows and doors
· Keep valuables out of view. Thieves are often looking for laptops, gaming systems and small electronics
· Record the serial number on your computer and tools to help police locate your property later
· Photograph your jewellery, also to help with a police investigation
· Get to know your neighbours and who lives in your community. Pay attention to who is around and note suspicious people and vehicles

The Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service offers a Home Guard Program.
The Home Guard Program is a free security audit/survey of your residence and is completed by a Peterborough Lakefield Community Policy Auxiliary Officer. The officer will inspect your home for possible security issues and provide suggestions on how to make your property more secure. The audit takes approximately one hour. To make an appointment, please call 705-876-1122 and ask for Victim Services.
