Family Curse? What Disturbs our Blood: A Son's Quest to Redeem the Past
James FitzGerald wondered as a child and young adult, why his family never spoke of his grandfather Gerald, the acclaimed and celebrated physician. His parents nervously avoided James' enquiries. Even the life of his own father, Jack, as well a much-admired doctor and allergist ended in tragedy. Was there a family curse? What was this mystery? Would he also fall prey? Thus began years of research that not only included James' discovery of his great-great-grandparents' tombstones near Millbrook, but that resulted in the publication of his award-winning book What Disturbs our Blood: A Son's Quest to Redeem the Past.
James will paint a picture of this crucial epoch of the world of medicine and Canadian public health and will discuss why he embarked upon his quest to ensure that he, himself, would not succumb to the tragedy of his forebears.
The talk is free for members, and by free-will donation for all non-members. Centennial Place is located across from Millbrook South Cavan Public School, off Tupper Street ,County Road 10, at 2 Centennial Lane.
