Free Rural Computer and e-Reader Workshops
City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library offers free computer and e-reader workshops to the public, at most locations.These workshops are a free service and should not be considered professional advice; instead, are led by a CAP - community access program youth worker, who continues to learn about the changes and advances in this technology.EReader Shopping? Considering purchasing an e-reader? Experience several types of readers by registering for a workshop. Have your own e-reading device? Register for an introduction to Overdrive the E-book/Audiobook Download Centre.Individualized Computer Workshops
Computer workshops are based on personal needs. Consider bringing in some questions or declaring an area of interest when registering. Network computers do have some limitations in programs, so if you have a specific program in mind, feel free to bring in your laptop. However, internet access is limited to the network computers at Rural libraries. Have an internet question? Lindsay, Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Falls are the only public libraries in the City of Kawartha Lakes offering wireless internet, at this point.Rural Computer Workshops

Bethany Library Hosts Scales Nature Park Animals!
Live Native Ontario Species Visit Bethany Library
Scales Nature Park will be presenting their popular outreach program at the Bethany branch of the City of Kawartha Lakes Library on Tuesday, November 13 at 6 pm.
Scales Nature Park is funded through the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and offers a variety of programs including Reptiles at Risk, Turtle Troubles and Wetland Wildlife.
Scales Nature Park features live animals that are safe, friendly and easy to handle. They are all native Ontario species some of which are now endangered in the wild.

Kawartha Reads! FREE Book Bag Entices Readers!
Kawartha Lakes Reads!!!
The City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library’s program “One Book, One Community” continues until the end of August. We invite everyone to “get on the same page” and read The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.
We encourage adults and children to read one or both of the selected titles. Be sure to drop by your local branch library and let staff know that you have read either of the titles. You will receive a library book bag and your name will be entered in our draw. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the summer.
Entries for the One Book, One Community Photo Contest have started to come in. Have some fun and submit a photo of yourself reading “The Hobbit” or “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. Prizes will be awarded for the most imaginative pictures. Deadline for entry is August 15.
The BBC film version of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” will be presented for your enjoyment at the following library branches. Dalton Library (705-833-2858) on August 15 at 6 p.m., Bethany Library (705-277-2321) on August 21 at 1 p.m. and Kinmount Library (705-488-3199) on August 28 at 2 p.m. Call the library for further information.

Free Library eReader Workshops!
City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library introduced new free eBook and audio book downloads,and is offering free introductory e-reader workshops at most City library branches in January 2012. Although the new digital downloads can be enjoyed on most home computers,an eReader lets you take your book with you. The Library workshops provide group instruction, and an opportunity to experience several types of e-book readers. Here are the workshops for our rural area.
Free January e-Reader Workshops Scheduled
- Bethany Branch (705 - 277 - 2321) – January 10th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm
- Dunsford (705 - 793 - 3037) – January 18th from 10:00am to 1:00pm
- Omemee (705 - 799 - 5711) – January 14th from 12:30pm to 2:00pm
Residents are asked to please contact their local library branch to register for a workshop.

Pay your Library overdue fines with donations of non- perishable food items during Ontario Public Library Week at all Library branch locations. Bring in some food,get rid of those fines,and start devouring books again! Saturday, June 25 at 11 am “Splash, Celebrate Summer” Kickoff Party
Boys and girls who join the reading club will receive a special poster, stickers, book bag and activity booklet based on our theme “Splash”. Record the books that you read, or books which are read to you, on the Log Sheet. Every time you read 3 books or have 6 books read to you, you will receive a special sticker and your name will be entered in the weekly draw. Enter the “Splash” contest at your local library and join in the online fun at the TD Summer Reading Club Website
Throughout the summer, Bethany Public Library has a great variety of theme based activities scheduled including:
- Thursday, July 21 at 11 am “Treasure Hunt” for preschool age children
- Thursday, July 21 at 4 pm “Shark Attack” for school age children
- Thursday, August 11 at 11 am “The Sea and the Seashore” for preschool age children
- Thursday, August 11 at 4 pm “Loads of Fun Activity Day” for school age children
- Thursday, August 18 at 11 am “A Pocketful of Tales” with storyteller Liz Gilmour
- Thursday, August 25 at 11 am “Ahoy Matey” Summer Finale
