March 4th! Omemee Library Friends Take Action!
March Forth May 4th! Borrow Books Locally!
Friends of Omemee Public Library are taking action this evening, by spreading the word: Borrow Books Locally!
Join friends of Omemee Public Library 5 p.m,.May 4th, to borrow a book, reserve a book, and chat about strategies for improving the library and its accessibility issues.
The Omemee Public Library needs you! Years ago, pre-amalgamation, Omemee Public Library was a fairly spacious spot , with numerous stacks of books, and even had room to conduct a children’s program with games and activities. When Omemee was amalgamated into the City of Kawartha Lakes, the City took over the library space. Eventually the library was relocated to what used to be part of the public washrooms.
Trying to use the library is a challenge for tots who have to squeeze in behind the computers to try and get the few books there is room to display. It is also a challenge for anyone using a wheelchair or walker to get down and around the one remaining stack in the library. The Omemee Public Library has dissolved into an “order a book and pick it up depot”-not a place that easily inspires anyone to borrow a book or engage in literary activities.
City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library Services South Area Supervisor, Dianne Lansdell, has indicated that space given to Libraries depends upon the amount of books borrowed from the libraries , and the number of active library users. Therefore, it is a case of use it or lose it. So bring all the neighbours, and bring all the kids down to the Omemee Library this evening and borrow a book!
Friends of the Omemee Public Library meet this evening at 5 p.m. at the Omemee Public Library. Bring your library card. For more details contact http://scr.im/omemee
