Omemee - Artists Cooperating Towards Better Futures!
Omemee Welcome Centre 41 King Street East, Omemee has been welcoming visitors, and locals for almost one month. With the generous support of Laurie, and Pat Wookey; NP Media Business Solutions; Omemee Christian Outreach, and numerous individuals, Omemee Welcome Centre is filling a need in the community for locals and tourists. Through this time, numerous artisans have passed through the doors, sharing a common dream. The dream?
The dream is of a place encouraging the exploration of arts for young and old, as well as providing a solution to a centuries old conundrum - having a space to display and promote their arts. Out of these conversations, a vision has emerged, a vision of a combination Tourist Information Centre, Arts Studio run co-operatively by share holders.
Last night, during Arts Jam, interested artists, art enthusiasts, visitors, citizens, and business owners, were invited to take part in the official formation of Omemee Welcome Centre.
Omemee Welcome Centre -a place where visitors and locals can come set a spell, learn more about art and local history, local food, local organizations, and local businesses. Memberships in the Omemee Welcome Centre would begin at $1 a year to allow everyone to take part. Voting priveleges, and dividends will be determined through an algorithm which will take investment both physical and financial into consideration. (CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES) – The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reports the following beach testing results for the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The information is current for the week of June 11, 2012, and is based on the most recent test results from the provincial lab in Peterborough for water samples taken from these beaches. The Health Unit advises local residents to note:
• Beaches marked as ‘OPEN’ are considered within acceptable levels as set out in the Ontario government’s Beach Management Protocol.
• Beaches marked ‘POSTED’ indicate bacterial levels in the water are higher than those considered acceptable as set out in the Ontario government’s Beach Management Protocol, making them unsafe for bathing.
• Beaches listed as ‘Results Unavailable’ indicate test results are not yet available. People can call the Health Unit or visit www.hkpr.on.ca for the most up-to-date results on these beaches.

Youngtown Museum is offering a reward for direct information, photos, or evidence of anyone causing damage to the property at 45 King St. E. Omemee.Youngtown Museum Targeted by Vandals
Between February 15th and March 1st, security lights at the back of Youngtown Museum at 45 King St. East Omemee were broken on THREE different occasions over the weekends. As a result, the museum was forced to replace the lights three times, and re-wire them to the second floor. Several days later, posters at the side of building were also removed.Youngtown Museum Targeted by Truckers
Since early spring of 2011, large trucks turning right onto Colborne Street off King Street have been cutting the corner exceptionally wide, driving over the corner of the property, and narrowly missing the building. Despite concerns expressed to the local grocery store, about how this careless driving is endangering residents and damaging property, the careless driving problem has continued.Youngtown Rock Rolled
Last year Youngtown Museum took action to deter this careless driving by digging in a large boulder and steel rod to discourage the driver, but without success. Tuesday March 13th, a large truck once again cut the corner, this time even dislodging the huge boulder.'Make no mistake, the turn can be made by these vehicles without the crossing of our sidewalks, grass and so on.' shared Trevor Hosier, Youngtown Museum founder, adding, 'Someone will be hurt, or the museum will be seriously damaged. This is an act of vandalism so far as we are concerned.'Youngtown Museum is asking people to please, watch for these truckers and other vandals - get a license number, take a photo of the truck or persons, call Police. They are offering a reward for direct information, photos, or evidence of anyone causing damage to the property at 45 King St. E. Omemee. Your help is needed and appreciated.
