Local Yarn Artists Assist Kentucky Tornado Victims!
Farm Girl Creations Extends Helping Hook!
Farm Girl Creations, Pontypool - two sisters who love to crochet, knit & sew. When Jennifer and Blair heard about the online auction to benefit tornado victims in Salyersville, Kentucky, they decided to pitch in by donating some of their unique crocheted items.
'We wanted to help the victims of the horrific Tornado Disaster,'shared Jennifer, adding 'We have been fortunate enough up here in Ontario in our local area not to have experienced anything so horrific, but I know that if we did, there would be many helping hands in the Crocheting Community to help out in any way possible.'
Kentucky Tornado Cuts Huge Swath
Between February 29 and March 3, tornados and severe storms struck across the center of the United States. On March 2 four separate tornados affected parts of nine different Kentucky counties, causing extensive damage to the towns of West Liberty and Salyersville. Salyersville-area historical tornado activity is significantly below Kentucky state average, and 38% below the overall U.S. average. However, according to an analysis by the National oWeather Service the Salyersville tornado extended an 'amazing' 49 miles through Kentucky and into West Virginia. Businesses, homes and other buildings in Salyersville were turned into piles of crumpled sheet metal. Insulation remnants floated off of tree branches and mattresses were found twenty feet up in the air inside of trees following the aftermath of the killer tornados that left 22 dead and millions homeless. Tornado Relief Auction Spearheaded by Former Resident
The Salyersville, Kentucky Tornado relief auction is being organized a former Salyersville, Kentucky resident, who owns 'Loops of Love'
"This auction is being held to raise money for the tornado relief effort in my hometown of Salyersville, Ky.' writes Loops of Love page owner, adding'The majority of the businesses in this small town were damaged/destroyed, as well as the high school, middle school and elementary school and a church. Many homes were also destroyed. All proceeds will be used to buy food, blankets, clothing, toiletries for those who have lost everything.'
The auction will end Saturday March 10, 9pm Eastern Time. Auction items can be viewed at Loops of Love: Tornado Relief Auction Album Payment for items can be made directly to the tornado relief fund set up by the church by Check or money order , but shipping must be paid to each individual donating items.
