Certain dates stick in your mind like no other. For me, the first is December 3, 2009. That was the date on which I was told I had severe heart damage. The other was May 12, 2011, when I was told that I was dying.
After 2 years of being misdiagnosed with lung problems, I had the good fortune of being introduced to a doctor who immediately sent me for a Stress Test. This test revealed that I had Left Ventricular Cardiomyopathy. This disease causes a weakening of the heart muscle. For me, the cause is unknown and the effect on my life, profound.

Local Teacher Needs help for Life Saving Operation!

(Backgrounder: Earlier this month, we ran an article detailing the need for a vital operation to help Harold Get a vital operation to heal his heart.See Help Save Harold’s Heart. This is the latest update.)
Due to a new development in German law, stem cell treatment is currently not possible to perform at the X-cell centre.Though we’ve been assured that this is only a short term situation, we do not want to risk Harold’s health on political issues that may take months to resolve.
Harold has now applied for treatment by the world renown cardiologist Dr Roberto-Fernadez Vina.
Our target date for treatment is mid July to mid August.
The other good news is that Harold’s two specialists here in Canada fully support his decision to have stem cell treatment, and will co-ordinate their efforts with Dr Vina in treating Harold before and after treatment. We know we are helping to pave the way for all the other people in crisis to bring stem cell therapy to Canada.

Who is Harold?

Harold Williams, a 47 year old Special Education Teacher at Port Perry High School, helps students with multiple learning and physical disabilities build the social and learning skills required to succeed in life.
In his free time, Harold is a storyteller and comedian, who entertains under the stage name Toki Wang. He is the cofounder of the Lakeland Storytellers in Lindsay. He tells stories in libraries and seniors homes. He is the official storyteller for the Lindsay Girl Guides. He has also worked with the Giggles Comedy Group to raise money for local charities. For the last year Harold has been unable to do these activities due to his poor health.
