Ecosystem 2000 - Scott Young Public School Wild Imaginings Reality!

Scott Young Public School Wild Imaginings Reality!

by Suzanne Sholer (Omemee Pigeon Editor)
Scott Young Public School,Omemee, Ontario transformed Jack White’s toboggan hill,on Kawartha Trans Canada Trail from barren farmer’s field into Ecosystem 2000. Since 1994, Scott Young Public School staff and students have planted over 13,000 seedlings, 1900 large trees, 1000 shrubs and wildflowers through the Ecosystem 2000 program. What was once a barren farmer’s field, is visibly transforming into a lush habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna. We need to put it on the map!

See the New Peterborough Trails and Bikeways map HERE! Request your free pdf copy!

Ever have one of those days? It seems Peterborough City Hall is having some difficulties uploading the New Peterborough Trails and Bikeways map to their site. Susan Sauve, Transportation Demand Management Planner kindly forwarded a pdf enclosure of the map to Omemee Pigeon eFlyer a few minutes ago. We have posted a screen shot of the “Trans Canada Trail Map to Omemee” for your convenience. You may also request a pdf copy of this map by emailing http://scr.im/omemee
The map. a screen shot of which is shown below, shows the Trains Canada Trail Route from Jackson Pond in Peterborough, to Omemee Other handy special features include an elevation map, and the location of the Trestle Bridge, one of the Trail’s, almost hidden treasures. The Trestle Bridge, just south east of Emily Park, affords an amazing panoramic view to those with the nerves of steel to cross it.

Omemee Trestle Bridge Gives Amazing Vista

The following video by a cyclist on the Trestle Bridge shows the amazing vista that can be seen from the Trestle Bridge on the rail trail.

The route from Jackson Park to Omemee is described as an easy 20 km ride along a limestone trail surface. It is also noted that food is available in Omemee. For people familiar with Omemee, this may seem the understatement of the year.In addition to the Omemee Foodland grocery store with onsite bakery, Omemee may actually have more restaurants and coffee shops per capita than other communities in the area. People love to visit Omemee’s eateries. and we have great food.
