Millbrook Theatre Fundraiser Highlights Classic Hollywood!

4th Line Theatre Millbrook Fundraising Dinner!

4th Line Theatre Millbrook will celebrate the 1920s and ’30s with a night of food, music, an auction and a chance to rub elbow with some of the actors and writers behind this season’s two productions: Queen Marie and St. Francis of Millbrook directed by Kim Blackwell.

Queen Marie Musical Comedy Highlights Cobourg Film Star

Queen Marie, is a musical comedy written by Shirley Barrie. The comedy highlights the life of Marie Dressler, one of the earliest and biggest stars of silent films,who was born in Cobourg. Queen Marie runs July 3 to Aug. 4., Tuesdays through Saturdays at 6 p.m., with five shows a week.

Some of Dressler’s films will be screened during the gala, setting the atmosphere for the ’20s-’30s themed evening.

St. Francis of Millbrook : Examines Small Town Gay Issues

St. Francis of Millbrook, by Sky Gilbert is story of a boy growing up gay in a small town, and his father’s intolerance of the situation. St. Francis of Millbrook runs Aug. 13 to Sept. 1, Monday through Saturday at 6 p.m., with six shows a week.

Michelle Ferrari from CHEX-TV will host the evening, with Rob Rusland handling the auction. Funds raised go to support 4th Line programming.

The event happens April 21 at 7 p.m. at the Baxter Creek Golf Club, 1702 Cedar Valley Rd. Fraserville.

Gamiing Eco Egg Hunt Tomorrow!

Gamiing Invites You to an EcoEgg Hunt!

Easter EcoEgg Hunt
Saturday April 7, 2012 Gamiing Nature Centre, just north of Omemee,will be holding its Annual Easter EcoEgg Hunt
From 11am to 5pm.

Join in a fun-filled day for all ages. There will be a variety of games, activities and adventrues, trail walks, yummy refreshments and a bake sale. This is a fundraising event with the proceeds supporting the Eco Education programs that Gamiing offers both on-site and as outreach programs.

Information booths will be located in the Discovery Shack and the Strawbale Hut.
The event is rain or shine, so be prepared for the weather, and to have fun!

About World Autism Awareness Day

United Nations General Assembly declared April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day in 2007, to bring the world's attention to autism, a pervasive disorder affecting tens of millions.
World Autism Awareness Day shines a bright light on autism as a growing global health concern. WAAD activities help increase, and develop world knowledg,e of autism, and impart information regarding the importance of early diagnosis and intervention. Additionally, WAAD celebrates the unique talents and skills of people with autism, and features community events around the world where individuals with autism and their families are warmly welcomed and embraced.

How to Show Your Support

Lindsay Autism Aspergers Support Group suggests people can show their support in a variety of ways : Change your outdoor light bulbs to blue, use blue balloons, wear something blue on April 2nd,put blue lights on your windows,and talk to businesses, schools and churches about World Autism Awareness Day. Although the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted the resolution to formally designate April 2 of every year WORLD AUTISM DAY, Ottawa still has not passed legislation re BILL S- 206 - introduced three years ago! Perhaps it is also the perfect day to call our MP and remind him of the importance of this bill.

What is Autism?

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders - autism spectrum disorders - caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by social and behavioral challenges, as well as repetitive behaviors.

Autism Parents in City of Kawartha Lakes Facebook Page and group were started by a City of Kawartha Lakes parent for those parents who have autistic / aspergers children. It is a place to come together as a group of parents who face challenges daily with their children. It is a place for parents to ask questions, share stories, and help each other out with different ways to handle situations . This is particularly helpful for those parents who are not able to attend the meetings in Lindsay. Even if you do not have a child with Autism, you can show your support by 'Liking' their Facebook page.

South American Evangelist Arturo Sanchez Speaks Tonight!

Monday, April 2, Omemee Christian Outreach Presents Arturo Sanchez!

Arturo Sanchez will be the keynote speaker Monday, April 2 at the Omemee Christian Outreach Dinner. Arturo Sanchez, an evangelist who started over 100 churches in South America, has a fascinating testimony to share.
'The people of South America are praying for Omemee Outreach, and
we are praying for them,' shared John Popowich, Omemee Christian Outreach organizer.

Omemee Christian Outreach Showing the Love of Christ

Omemee Christian Outreach sponsors a free community dinner each Monday evening in Omemee, at Christ Church Anglican, King Street West lower level.
Doors open at 6pm, dinner is at 6:30, followed by music, then speakers. This is a all-denominational family event, and children enjoy doing crafts while their parents listen to the speakers. A free will offering is collected to help defray costs.

Joy Spreads Joy

Joy Hext, a new Omemee resident, is one of the regular performers at the Monday night dinners. Prior to meeting and marrying Brad, Joy lived in the Philippines where she frequently performed praise and worship songs at Christian Outreach Services in churches, and prisons.
'I was very glad to find Omemee Outreach' shared Joy adding,'I like to share the talents God has given me with others.'

'Omemee Christian Outreach has been blessed, with the contributions of many speakers' shared John Popowich, adding,'In May we have two very special speakers confirmed: Winston Trout, and George Jenkins.'
Evangelist Winston Trout,who flows in prophetic gifts,will be the key note speaker May 7th, and George Jenkins, is returning the following week on May 14 th.
George Jenkins, the first man to become a minister while in the Ontario prison system, had people crying with laughter during his presentation last fall. Since George is such a popular speaker, Omemee Christian Outreach has booked Coronation Hall to make sure there is sufficient seating for everyone.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt Gamiing Nature Centre Omemee

Saturday April 23 , GAMIING NATURE CENTRE hosts their annual Easter Eco-Egg Hunt. The event is rain or shine, so come prepared for the weather and to have fun! Activities include egg hunt, forest bingo, ( a popular game to play with the family while you take in the sights and sounds of the forest, meadows and wetland). yummy refreshments and even a bake sale .Information booths will be located in the Discovery Shack and in their new Straw bale Hut.

As always, admission is by donation. The proceeds will support their EcoGuardian programs

Gamiing (gaa-minj) Ojibwe, meaning “at the shore“, operates from a 100-acre property with a natural shoreline, surrounded by wetlands, forests and meadows. A Conservation Easement has been placed upon the land and put in Trust with the Kawartha Heritage Conservancy to preserve it in perpetuity as a dynamic natural venue to where the public is invited to relax, reflect and participate in interactive low-impact and zero-impact activities.

Vikki is no stranger to us in Omemee. Her presentation last June, at the nursery, is just the beginning of her talent! Vikki is going to demonstrate how to make your containers eye-stoppingly amazing! She will also give us tips on fertilizing and caring for containers for all season appeal. She will probably have some new plants to show as well. Bring your "plant money" because she is going to sell her demonstration samples at cost, rather than take them home! Her demonstration container will be one of the door prizes for the evening!

Omemee Historical Society Writing Contest Award Winners Honoured Today

Omemee and District Historical Society Annual Book Fair Coronation Hall

Trevor Kennedy, a Grade 4 student at Lady Eaton Elementary School in Omemee. and runner up Alanna Laskovich, Grade 9 I.E. Weldon student will be guests of honour today at the Historical Society’s annual Book Fair.

Omemee – Ops Hockey Amalgamation

Public Information Sessions Start Monday April 4th

Emily-Omemee and Ops Minor Hockey Associations will be holding a series of six meetings this month to discuss and vote on the proposed amalgamation between the two organizations. The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) has been encouraging centres to consider amalgamation to bolster their numbers and stay competitive, due to falling enrolment. Since many other centres in Ontario have already amalgamated, Ops and Emily-Omemee have set up these meetings in an effort to to be able to choose which team they join with rather than wait and not have a choice in the process.
The executive committees of the Emily-Omemee Minor Hockey Association and Ops Minor Hockey Association met and decided the best way to ensure they can provide strong and competitive hockey programs for our children is to amalgamate the two associations.
Each Association appointed members to an Amalgamation Committee which is overseeing the amalgamation meetings and the amalgamation vote. An amalgamation presentation was posted on the Ops Flames and Emily-Omemee Sharks sites to help members understand the reasons behind it and what the joining of the two centres will mean for the future.
